Gelbe Landkrabbe
This large species of Central African freshwater crab with a distinctive yellow crest on its carapace is only found in the humid rainforests of southwest Cameroon. It is clearly comfortable on land and it can breathe air as well as water. During the rainy season it is found walking on the forest floor, while in the dry season it retreats to live in burrows that it digs close to forest streams. Further investigation is needed to learn more about its semi-terrestrial lifestyle, and its conservation status is of interest because its rainforest habitat is currently under threat.
