Peruanisches Zebra
Diese ungiftige und völlig harmlose neue Schlangenart wurde erst Anfang 2016 in den peruanischen Anden entdeckt. Es handelt sich nicht nur um eine neue Art, sondern sogar um eine ganz neue Gattung!! Darum kann mit einer Patenschaft nicht nur der Artnamen, sondern auch gleich der neue Gattungsname vom Paten selber gewählt werden.
Bisher wurden nur zwei Exemplare dieser Schlange gefunden. Ihr Lebensraum in Peru ist durch geplante Staudammprojekte, Abbau von Bodenschätzen und Maßnahmen zur Schaffung landwirtschaftlicher Nutzflächen stark bedroht. Durch weitere Forschung in der Region sollen mehr Informationen gesammelt werden, die der Entwicklung von Schutzstrategien für diese, aber auch für andere Tierarten in der Andenregion helfen.

Peruvian Zebra
This non-venomous and completly harmless new snake was discovered in early 2016 in the Peruvian Andes. It is not only a new species but also a new genus! Therefore the future name patron can choose both parts of the scientific name. The snake is characterized by a beautiful banded pattern of black and bright yellow and has a total length of about 64 cm.
So far, only two individuals of this species are known. Unfortunately the habitat in Peru is strongly threatened by the construction of hydroelectric dams, the extraction of natural resources, deforestation for fire wood and fire clearing for agriculture. The planned further research will provide more information to develop conservation strategies for the flora and fauna of this Andean regions.
