This spectacular new iris-species grows in the Worchester Valley in the Western Cape Province in South Africa. It was dedicated by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) to the first Football World Cup on the African continent and to commemorate the good ZA-German cooperation during the preparation of this event.

"Vuvuzela" is a Zulu-word for "to go up" or "to rise" and is also the noisy trumpet of South African soccer fans.
